AESA Member Jack Kooyoomjian received the 2024 National Environmental Achievement Award (NEAA) from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies

Dr. Jack Kooyoomjian received the 2024 National Environmental Achievement Award (NEAA) from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), which was presented to him on February 14, 2024, in Austin, Texas. His name was submitted without his knowledge. The selection committee selected Jack and advised him in a letter in November of 2023. He did not go there but had someone else (Calvin Farr, General Manager of the Prince William County Service Authority) receive it on my behalf. There were two individuals recognized for this award in the US in 2024: Jack Kooyoomjian and Mr. Eric Rothstein, Principal of Galardi Rothstein Group, NC.

The Gentleman on the left is Calvin D. Farr, General Manager of the Prince William County Service Authority. He accepted the award on Jack’s behalf at the February 2024 NACWA meeting in Austin, TX and brought it back with him. Calvin presented the award to Jack at the Service Authority’s March 14th Board of Director’s meeting. Jack has been on the PW County Service Authority Board of Directors as the Occoquan Magisterial District Director for 29 years and was just re-appointed for another 4 years. Prince William County has seven (7) Magisterial Districts & an At-Large position appointed by the At-Large Chair of the Board of County Supervisors. Jack has served also as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Service Authority Board of Directors, as well as on the Audit Committee and in other functions.

In addition to Jack receiving the NACWA’s 2024 National Environmental Achievement Award (NEAA), the Service Authority recently received its’ 14th Peak Platinum Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) for the H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility in recognition of 14 continuous years of complete and consistent National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit compliance and for having a perfect 100% compliance record with its state regulatory agency. The plant is located in Woodbridge, VA and is one of only five member facilities to be 100 percent compliant with its state regulations for 14 years in a row.

This award is viewed as a career recognition award by the NACWA. Jack was recognized for his 40 years as an Environmental Engineer at US EPA Headquarters in Washington, DC, his 29 years of service as a Board member of the 2nd largest combined water & sewer utility in Virginia, his service as a long-standing member of the Federal Water Quality Association (FWQA), a Member Association of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), his civic involvement as President of the Lake Ridge-Occoquan-Coles Civic Association in Virginia, as well as his activities with the Greater Metropolitan Washington Area Section (GMWAS) of AESA.

Congratulations to Jack Kooyoomjian for the well deserved commendations and for being a wonderful and proud addition to AESA’s membership.
