SUMMARY:Celebrating Scientific Excellenece
DESCRIPTION:AESA\, in partnership with the Salmast Heritage Association\, cordially invites you to mark your calendar for an evening dedicated to honoring scientific excellence. \nHonoree\, Dr. Narek Gharibyan serves as the deputy group leader of the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group at the Laboratory. He has supported experimental nuclear science at the National Ignition Facility including as the responsible scientist for a radiochemical diagnostic fielded during high-yield fusion shots.  Other research interests in nuclear and radiochemistry include isotope production\, chemical separations\, measurements relevant to nuclear reactions and decay properties\, and the application of nuclear science for national security. \n In 2012\, Dr. Gharibyan\, alongside Dawn Shaughnessy and Evgeny Tereshatov\, participated in the confirmation experiment for element 117 at GSI Darmstadt\, Germany.  In this experiment\, the scientists bombarded a berkelium target with calcium ions to produce element 117. Following this independent confirmation experiment\, in 2015\, element 117 was named tennessine with the symbol Ts. \nSpace is Limited\, RSVP is required. \n
