AESA Lecture Series: Amulsar gold mine = Poisoning Lake Sevan

About the presentation:

Areg will be addressing mining issues in Armenia in general with emphasis on Amulsar gold mine. He will be presenting the background of Amulsar, work that has been done until now, and what are the unmanageable impacts and risks to Lake Sevan and Jermuk water resources.

 

About the speaker:

Areg Gharabegian, Advisor to the former Minister of Nature Protection of Armenia is an engineer specialized in environmental studies with over 35 years of working experience in US. In November 2016 he went to Armenia to become advisor to the former Minister of Nature Protection. He held that position until May 2018 when government in Armenia was changed. Among his responsibilities included working on environmental issues related to Amulsar gold mine. He has studied this and other gold mines in Armenia and conducted site visits as well as negotiations with different mine operators and funding agencies.
