Introduction to LoRa and LPWAN
This month Aram Ter-Martirosyan will introduce us to LoRa, a proprietary, chirp spread spectrum (CSS) radio modulation technology for LPWAN and its applications. He will describe the LoRa technology and how its used to build a network using IoT (Internet of Things) end-devices, and showcase a few actual devices and their typical applications.
LoRa enables wide area networks known as LoRaWAN which is the ideal technology for battery operated sensors and low power applications as a compliment to M2M (Mobile to Mobile) cellular technology. It can cover entire cities with a few gateways and support thousands of nodes. Hardware available now uses Raspberry Pi with a variety of options, including WAN, USB, GPS, etc. add-on modules.
